09/18/10 Butler Branch Fire

Posted on September 18, 2010

The early morning hours of September 18th brought a call for a porch fire on Butler Branch Road. First arriving units found quite a bit more than a porch fire with heavy fire showing in sizeable two-story lightweight frame residential structure. Units from several Dinwiddie and Prince George County departments were called to extinguish the fire and to shuttle in water. The structure was only a few years old and reports indicate that the lightweight materials likely contributed to the relatively quick collapse of the second floor of the home. Brisk winds also were a factor, and fortunately, no resulting brush fires occurred despite embers being carried a considerable distance.

All occupants escaped the structure and no firefighters were injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and several investigative units were brought to the scene.
